Using Covid-19 as a tool, the Trinamool Congress has managed to get the civic elections postponed to bring under control internal feuds within the party, BJP MLA of Matigara-Naxalbari Anandamoy Barman said on Wednesday.
Attending a party programme at ward no. 11 of Siliguri Municipal Corporation, he said that since the declaration of names of candidates for the civic polls, several Trinamool Congress leaders had left the party to contest the polls as independents. To quell the rebellion within the party, Trinamool had got the polls postponed.
During the day, seven people joined the BJP at the election office of the party in ward no. 11. Five of them were residents of ward 11 and two of ward no. 12. Speaking to reporters, Anandamay Barman said: “There have been a lot of grassroots candidates in the TMC. Trinamool has used Covid as a tool to control their factionalism at the grassroots. For this the election has been postponed. Besides Siliguri, this has been witnessed in the three other civic bodies going to the polls. The State Election Commission has done the bidding of the ruling party”
