An SUV rammed a truck from behind on Sola-Bhagwat flyover on SG highway on Saturday, resulting in a narrow escape for the youth driving the vehicle. The tyre of the truck burst on impact, while the youth got stuck inside his SUV for more than an hour till fire officials rescued him by cutting open the vehicle doors and chassis. Police were in the process of registering an FIR against the truck driver.

Tilak Lakhani, a resident of Shyam Vihar bunglows in Thaltej, was passing on the overbridge towards Gandhinagar when he rammed his vehicle into a truck from the rear. The truck got shoved into the divider on impact. A rescue operation was started after police and fire officials were alerted. Lakhani’s family members also reached the accident spot. Firemen found it quite difficult to get Lakhani out of the car as his legs had got stuck in twisted metal. Five emergency response vehicles reached the spot and more than 20 personnel were involved in the rescue operation.

The car was pulled out from the rear of the truck using a crane, while the doors and frame of the car were cut with metal-cutters. Lakhani was pulled out of the car and taken to hospital. In-charge chief fire officer Rajesh Bhatt said, “The operation lasted for about an hour.”

Later, cops were in the process of filing an offence against the truck driver, Babusingh Kushwaha based on a complaint filed by Lakhani’s father. According to a police official, Kushwaha should have taken his vehicle to the side of the road after his truck tire burst, instead he let it remain in the first lane.
