The court asked this after the government stated that it has rejected 5,161 applications against a total of 91,810 received by it across the state. The government assured the court to give a proforma of the rejection letter.

The SC raised the query to ensure that people whose claim has been rejected can know its reasons and approach the appellate authority. The court wanted to know whether details are being put up on the portal used for claiming Covid compensation.

Of all the applicants, 59,885 have been paid compensation while payment is pending for 11,000 claimants and 15282 applications are under process. The government assured the court that the payment to the approved applicants will be made within three days.

The SC appreciated the efforts of the government to disburse claims by giving wide publicity to its order asking all the states to give ex gratia compensation to next kin of the deceased.
