On the occasion of the 75th year of Independence (Azadi Ka Swarnim Mahotsav) Headquarters DG NCC launched an event ‘Shaheedon Ko Shat Shat Naman to honour the fallen heroes in the service of the nation here on Wednesday.
As a part of the ‘Shaheedon Ko Shat Shat Naman’, NCC Directorate (Andhra Pradesh and Telangana) along with the 16th Battalion of the Bihar Regiment, remembered the supreme sacrifice made by Colonel Santosh Babu, a defence release said here.
On the occasion of Republic day, NCC Directorate Deputy Director General (AP&T) Air Commodore P Maheshwar VM (G), presented a memento on behalf of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and NCC DG to Ms B Santoshi wife of Colonel (late) Santosh Babu.
On the occasion, NCC Cadets paid floral tributes to Colonel (late) Santosh Babu, Colonel Santosh Babu was the Commanding Officer of 16 Bihar in Ladakh sector.
In response to the Chinese belligerence in Galwan valley in May 2020, the battalion was mobilised as a quick reaction force.
16 Bihar had engaged in hand to hand combat with the PLA troops on May 15, 2020 and under the leadership of Colonel B Santosh Babu, it not only foiled the nefarious design of the enemy but also inflicted unprecedented damage in terms of life and elute.
Colonel B San tosh Babu and 19 other persons laid down their lives in the line of duty in defence of the nation. For his conspicuous bravery in the face of enemy aggression, exemplary leadership, astute professionalism and supreme sacrifice Colonel B Santosh Babu was conferred with the Maha Vir Chakra posthumously.
