Ahmedabad city on Wednesday reported 265 new Covid cases, which is more than half the 548 cases reported from across Gujarat. The state had last reported 544 cases on June 10 Like with previous waves, this latest spike in cases seems to be the beginning of another wave from the city, which has now reported more than 100 cases for the second day in a row.
Cases in Ahmedabad city have risen exponentially after Christmas with the city reporting 52 cases, doubling to 98,again almost doubling with 178 cases and showing a 50% rise with 265 cases.
The second highest number of 72 cases were reported in Surat city, followed by 34 in Vadodara city. There were 23 cases in Anand, 21 in Kheda, 20 in Rajkot city, and 13 new cases each in rural Ahmedabad and Kutch. Other districts reported cases in single digits.
One Covid death was reported from Porbandar, which took the death tally to 24 just in December and 10,116 till date. Of the 1,902 active Covid cases in Gujarat, 11 were on ventilators, while 1,891 were in stable medical condition. Omicron tally at 97 in Gujarat: As many as 19 cases of Omicron were reported in the past 24 hours, up from 5 cases on Tuesday. Gujarat now has 97 patients infected with the B.1.1.529 Omicron variant of Covid- 19. Of these, 41 have been discharged and no deaths have been reported in the state so far.
Of the total Omicron cases detected in Gujarat since December 4, a total of 33 are in Ahmedabad city, 21 in Vadodara city,9 in Surat, 8 in Anand, 6 in Kheda, 5 each in Gandhinagar city and rural Rajkot, 4 in Mehsana, 3 in Jamnagar city, and 1 each in Bharuch, rural Vadodara and Porbandar.
Three including mother and child were booked for Covid violation in the city.
AMC filed police cases against three persons, including a mother and her 4 year-old child, for violating Covid isolation norms after returning from abroad.
The AMC stated that these persons, including a youth from Maninagar who came from the US, a mother and child in Nikol who came from New Zealand and a man who returned from Germany to his South Bopal residence, had violated the 7-day isolation period and were booked under the Gujarat Epidemic Diseases Covid-19 Regulations 2020.
Two more micro-contaminants in city, total 9: The total number of micro-containment areas in Ahmedabad city reached 9 on December 29 with two more being declared on Wednesday.
