A 30-year-old woman from Motera area filed a complaint of mental and physical torture against her in-laws. The complainant is a teacher of DPS Gandhinagar, and had got married in 2018.
Problems began just days after the wedding when her husband and in-law started ill-treating her. She was told not to tell her parents about the bad behaviour. The family later went to Nainital where again her husband, father-in-law, mother-in law and sister-in-law treated her badly. On return, she and her husband moved into a rented house in Gota. Here also, the man would abuse her and even beat her. Her in-laws told her she had not brought enough dowry. She claimed that her sister-in-law also encouraged her husband to beat her up.
The woman shifted to her parents’ place. She alleged that after she gave birth to a girl child her husband did not give her proper food and beat her up. The in-laws also taunted her for bearing a girl child. She was thrown out of the house with her daughter in March 2020. After a few months, she went back to her husband’s house during Navratri. He allegedly did not allow her to eat for three days and beat her up and again asked her to leave the house. She filed a complaint against her husband, mother-in-law, father-in-law, sister-in-law and the latter’s husband. Sola police registered a complaint of mental and physical torture and are investigating the case.
