There was some relief on the Covid front as the number of new cases in the last 24 hours dropped below 10,000. On January 13, the number of cases crossed the 10,000 mark for the first time and consistently remained there breaching even the 20,000 barrier by mid-January.

Gujarat reported 9,395 new cases on January 30 with Ahmedabad city reporting 3,582 new cases. Vadodara had 1,598 new infections while it was 522 in Rajkot city and 398 in Surat city. Vadodara Rural had 413 cases, Gandhinagarcity 304, Patan 296, Rajkot Rural 251, Surat Rural 244 and Mehsana 200. Other districts reported fewer than 200 cases.

The last 24 hours also saw 30 Covid fatalities, of which eight were in Ahmedabad city and three each in cities of Vadodara, Rajkot and Surat.


Bharuch and Surat Rural also saw three deaths each while one fatality each was reported from Rajkot Rural, Mehsana, Gandhinagar Rural, Ahmedabad Rural, Jamnagar City and Rural as well as Morbi. The total Covid death toll in January this year stands at 320 while the overall fatality in the state till date is 10,438.

There were 91,320 active cases in Gujarat, of which 278 were on ventilators while the rest were stable. The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) on Thursday added eight new micro-containment zones in the city and removed 15.

The city at present has 98 active micro containment zones with the highest in Vikram Park in Thakkarbapanagar where 27 people are quarantined in three houses.

A total of 988 beneficiaries in the 15-17 years age group got vaccinated in Ahmedabad city on January 30 while 2,794 beneficiaries in the 60+ age group were given their third precautionary dose. Total doses administered in the city stood at 12,885 doses on Sunday.
