It’s ‘déjà boo’ yet again as there will practically be no New Year celebrations in public this year too, courtesy Covid-19. With effect from today and till January 1,2022, the Covid curfew timings have been extended by the state home department. The night curfew will now start at 11 pm instead of 1 am and remain in place till 5 am.

The decision to impose curfew during the festive season has been taken to check the spread of Covid-19 cases amid the Omicron variant threat.

The notification will be in place for Ahmedabad, Surat, Rajkot, Vadodara, Junagadh, Bhavnagar and Gandhinagar cities. The same notification mentions that shops, restaurants, commercial establishments, larri-gallas, shopping complexes, marketing yards, weekly markets, salons, beauty parlours and other businesses will have to shut shop at 11 pm from tonight.

The city police have issued directions to every police station, asking them to hold meetings with party plot owners, farmhouse owners and hotel ad ministrations under the leadership of the concerned deputy commissioner of police and instruct them not to hold parties or violate the curfew notification issued on Friday evening.

Meanwhile, the city police have formed squads of plainclothesmen to keep an eye on the hotels and farmhouses to ensure no parties are held in violation of the fresh notification issued by the state home department.
