The state government on Friday constituted a high-level inquiry commit- tee to probe into the collapse of a concrete slab from an under-construction flyover on SP Ringroad. The committee will be headed by Ahmedabad Municipal Commissioner Lochan Sehra and will have four other technical members. Mirror had reported that the government had not initiated inquiry into the incident even after 48 hours, though AUDA had recommended it. On Friday morning, Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel held a meeting with officials and announced that the committee will have four members.
A part of the 853-metre- long overbridge had collapsed but no one was injured. The stressing work of obligatory box girder of 48-metre span began at 9 am and was to be completed by 10 pm. And suddenly it col lapsed. The material used was lab-approved before the work began, it has been claimed.
Besides Sehra, the committee will include the Chief Engineer of the Gujarat Housing Board, design experts from the Roads and Building Department, a representative each from the forensic science laboratory d Vadodara-based Gujarat Engineering Research Institute (GERI).
The panel will inquire into the reasons behind the collapse that occurred at the intersection of Karnavati Club Road and SP Ring Road. It will also probe if there was any negligence during the construction process and will suggest steps to prevent such accidents. Preliminary report will be given to the government in 30 days.
