The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation continued its drive against commercial and industrial establishments over mosquito breeding to check vector-borne diseases. The drive was conducted by officials in all seven zones of the city and notices were issued to 192 units and administration charges were collected to the tune of Rs 2.58 lakh from erring units.

The AMC issued notices and collected fine of Rs 25,000 from Hotel Hyatt on Ashram Road, Rs 20,000 from Tata Motors, Rs 11,000 from Empire Business Hub, Rs 3,000 from Safal Pegasus, Rs 2,500 from Gwalia Sweets (Naroda), Rs 1,000 from Vadilal Ice Cream Factory (Gomtipur), among others. The civic body is conducting checks at commercial, residential, industrial establishments and under-construction buildings in wake of rising cases of dengue. The dengue-causing mosquitoes breed at places where stagnant water collects. The AMC teams conducted checks at 345 commercial entities of which 192 were served notices.

Mosquito breeding was found at terraces, stagnant water in scrap items, overhead and underground tanks, refrigerator trays, elevator wells, open tanks etc. Officials have asked the people to prevent water logging and clear spots where mosquitoes breed.
