The Centre’s ambitious sports infrastructure plan for Ahmedabad has everything in place except for an executioner. The Centre has already formulated the master plan of the Sardar Patel Sports Enclave to be built on the 215 acre land around the Narendra Modi Stadium. The Sports Enclave is envisioned keeping in mind Ahmedabad’s future ambition to host the Olympics. The Centre also plans to build a foot overbridge connecting the sports enclave to the airport circle. But the big question facing the project is who will manage it?

Sources in the know said as of now there is no clarity on it and the Centre is mulling to set up a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) with the Gujarat government to implement the project. Sources said the master plan of the Sports Enclave has been connected to the Sabarmati Riverfront Devolution. opment phase-2.

It should be noted that AMC is managing phase-2 of the Sabarmati Riverfront Development under which an 11 km area on both sides of the river will be developed. A new road network till Indira Bridge and a 50- metre wide road connecting Sabarmati Riverfront and Sardar Patel enclave is also part of this phase.

In addition, the AMC has proposed an Rs 225 crore barrage-cum-bridge project from Motera powerhouse to Hansol Sadar Bazar as part of phase-2.

Meanwhile, the main junction of the proposed bullet train between Ahmedabad and Mumbai is also being developed near the Sabarmati Railway station.

A senior official of the Sabarmati Riverfront Development Corporation Limited (SRDCL) said that the master plan of Sardar Patel Sports enclave has been prepared and there is a plan to build a foot overbridge.

Phase-2 of the Sabarmati Riverfront project has no such plan for a foot overbridge. SRDCL is already constructing a bar rage-cum-bridge in phase 2 but there is no clarity on who will carry out works for various projects of the Sports Enclave, said the official.
